Hubert H. Warner introduced his Safe Liver & Kidney Cure in 1879 after developing a severe case of Bright's disease, a kidney ailment. The cure he sold was a vegetable concoction that was a leader in the patent medicine business of the age. The Warner's patent medicine products appeared in a unique bottle, which featured an embossed safe on the front. This drew upon his earlier business making cast iron safes, and also implied to his potential customers that his product posed no risk.
